Unboxing My New Odery Equalizer Drum Set in Bali, Indonesia: A Dream Come True!

As a drummer, there are few moments as exciting as getting a brand-new drum set. The thrill of unveiling that pristine, untouched kit—ready to be played, explored, and enjoyed—is like no other. For me, that moment recently came when I unboxed my new Odery Equalizer Drum Set in Bali, Indonesia, and I couldn’t wait to share my experience with you.

The Build-Up to the Big Moment

Ever since I first laid eyes on the Odery Equalizer series, I knew it was the drum kit I had to own. The combination of incredible craftsmanship, sleek design, and powerful sound was exactly what I had been searching for. Known for their superior quality and attention to detail, Odery is a brand that drummers respect, and their Equalizer series takes it a step further with some truly jaw-dropping features.

As a drummer based in Bali, Indonesia, where the vibe is all about relaxation, inspiration, and creativity, I couldn’t think of a better place to unbox my new drum set. Bali is filled with rich culture, vibrant music, and breathtaking natural beauty—and the moment I set my eyes on those fresh drums, it felt like a perfect match for this magical island.

The Unboxing Experience

The excitement began the moment the package arrived at my doorstep. The Odery Equalizer kit was carefully packed, and the anticipation was building as I tore into the packaging. As soon as I lifted the top of the box, I was greeted with the gleam of beautiful maple shells, meticulously designed hardware, and a finish that immediately stood out.

I chose the “Natural Gloss” finish, which highlights the drum shells’ wood grain in a way that feels both elegant and bold. The attention to detail is evident in every part of the kit—from the perfectly rounded bearing edges to the stunning lugs that hold the drumheads tightly in place.

The Kit Breakdown

The Odery Equalizer series comes packed with some impressive features:

  1. Shell Construction: s a high-performance and sophisticated product in essence, the NOVA Equalizer Series brings from models with coated finishes, high-level and with solid colors, to the most exotic lacquered finishes.
  2. The hardware: with a differentiated identity, has robustness, versatility, and at the same time offers a harmonious and exquisite look. This means that every detail of NOVA Equalizer was specially planned.
  3. The shells are made with Basswood, Poplar Ultra Premium and Maple woods. For lacquered models, we use Apple Wood wood as an outer blade with the veins in the vertical direction giving the kit a unique look.
  4. For the coated finishes we use a special, high-performance PVC, which is 100% glued to the hull. This means that our coated drums offer greater durability and at the same time prevent the appearance of bubbles when exposed to heat. The matte texture found in the drums with coated finish adds a touch of modernity. Ready for a new battery concept?
  5. Drum Sizes: My kit includes the standard 20″ bass drum, 10″ and 12″ rack toms, and a 16″ floor tom. These sizes give me that punchy, balanced sound that fits all genres, whether I’m playing rock, jazz, or funk.
  6. Hardware: The drum hardware is rock-solid, with Odery’s exclusive hardware system designed to hold up even under the most intense playing conditions. The rack tom mounts are stable and easy to adjust, while the snare stand has a firm grip that eliminates any unwanted vibrations.
  7. Snare Drum: The 14” snare drum is a showstopper in itself. Crisp, sensitive, and versatile—it responds beautifully to every touch, from light ghost notes to powerful rimshots.
  8. Cymbals and Extras: Though the kit itself doesn’t come with cymbals, I couldn’t resist pairing it with my own collection Sabian cymbals. The balance between the drums and cymbals is perfect, and the result is a complete, professional sound.

The First Playthrough

After setting up the kit in my Bali studio, it was time to play. I could feel the difference immediately—the response of each drum is incredibly sensitive, yet they also have the power to handle heavier hits. The toms sing with that warm, resonant sound I’ve always wanted, and the bass drum provides a deep, punchy thump that cuts through without being overpowering.

One of the standout features of the Odery Equalizer kit is its versatility. Whether I’m tapping lightly for a delicate groove or hitting hard for a more intense rhythm, the kit responds to my every move, offering a perfect balance between warmth and projection.
